Making Disciples in Uganda

"go therefore and make disciples of all nations"   Matthew 28:19

Equipping and training pastors to make disciples and fulfill the great commission.

College sweethearts, Jordan and Sarah were married in 2004, after meeting four years earlier at Georgia Tech freshman orientation. They both grew up in Georgia, where the accents are thick and the tea is sweet. After college, a stint in professional baseball (Jordan, not Sarah), a few working years in Atlanta, and some pretty spectacular short-term mission trips, they headed west to Texas for seminary.

While Jordan studied at Redeemer Seminary, Sarah was busy chasing their two rambunctious boys, Charlie and Henry. It was during these years that the Lord began working in their hearts and calling them towards theological training overseas.

Fast-forward to today, and you will find the Crews family with their newest edition, Claire, in Uganda, where Jordan is training pastors at Africa Renewal University.

Training Leaders International (TLI) seeks to meet the growing need for theological training overseas. With the rapid expansion of Christianity in the Southern and Eastern Hemispheres, coupled with the challenges many Christians face worldwide, the church lacks well-trained teachers where they are needed the most. Training Leaders International intends to play a unique role in addressing this problem. They seek out pastors, seminary professors and future evangelical scholars who are training to receive their Master of Divinity, Master of Theology or Doctorate. Those who are chosen are mentored and sent to different locations around the world to teach in settings where there is a need for theological education. It is their hope that they will be significantly used by God to strengthen national churches, pastors, and leaders, through faithful and culturally relevant teaching of God’s Word.

Africa Renewal University (originally Gaba Bible Institute), was founded in January 2007 with 35 students and a commitment to equip Christian pastors and leaders for the transformation of society. Today there are over 360 students, from 45 different tribes and 10 different countries (Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Sudan, South Sudan, Eritrea and Kenya), who are being equipped as pastors and leaders. Africa Renewal University is committed to developing influential pastors and leaders who boldly stand against theological error, understand the African context in which they live, and cultivate long-lasting and self-sustaining ministries which seek to glorify and honor God.
